Welcome the newest Jenkins!

After months of waiting, talking, planning, and thinking about how perfect life was going to be to once he arrived, Bauer finally came home.  But lets back track for a moment.

We decided that we were going to get a puppy.  This is something that we had planned for a while.  Ryan had the name picked out since be put on his first hockey helmet.  Knowing that we wanted to get a puppy sometime in the summer, we began looking in late March for a breeder and were lucky enough to find one here in GA, only about a hour from us.

Like the planners we are we put down two deposits well before Mom, Mariah, went into heat just so we were ensured that we would get our pic of which dog we wanted.  Then the waiting began…

Bauer was born on July 4, 2013, America’s Birthday!  Our breeder posted pictures all day on July 4 so we felt as though we were in the delivery room!  Every time a black or yellow male was born we celebrated knowing that we would have first pick. Then the waiting began, again…

Now that he was born we finally started getting the little guy stuff.  And oh did we ever!  I think he has nicer things than us: the latest dog Bronco gear, the softest bedding, the most fun toys, and the list goes on.  But we were still waiting to meet the little guy.

At four weeks old we were finally able to meet the little guys, but which one was going to be the little guy.  When we arrived at the breeder she had a laundry basket with six blacks and two yellows.  Oh the choices!  Right away a little yellow guy popped out of the basket and was BEGGING for me to pick him up.  He was the first one out of the basket and that was all she wrote.  We played with all of them, even the runt, but we kept coming back to the little one from the beginning.  After getting stuck between the washer and dryer and Ryan saving him we knew it was meant to be!  He was the one!  Our Bauer!  And the waiting continued for another 4 weeks…

Until two weeks later and we heard from the breeder that we could pick him up early!  The dilemma: were we ready? did we have everything we needed? had we puppy proofed the apartment enough? had we had our share of nights out?

Who were we kidding?  We had waited long enough, August 26, National Dog Day, he was ours!
